UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA), UNM School of Engineering and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) recently celebrated the creation of a program in mechanical engineering to meet local workforce needs.  UNM-LA hosted an event Monday, June 7 to recognize...

University of New Mexico Ph.D. Student Siavash Nikravesh and Mechanical Engineering Professor and Department Chair Yu-Lin Shen, using Center for Advanced Research Computing resources, have developed a new three-dimensional modeling approach to solving...

A new collaborative research project led by The University of New Mexico seeks to answer some of the compelling questions surrounding a range of materials, including those for quantum and energy applications. The three-year project, titled...

The University of New Mexico Los Alamos (UNM-LA) and the UNM School of Engineering (SOE) are collaborating to expand an existing two-year pre-engineering program into a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program on the UNM-LA campus....

Nathan Jackson, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at UNM, is the sole principal investigator for a project called “Development of Multifunctional Flexible Piezoelectric Materials for MEMS.” The three-year project began July 31. The...

The University of New Mexico campus and labs have been uncharacteristically quiet the last few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but on least in one part of campus, that is about to change. Construction is slated to begin in mid-July on the new lab...

Planning had been taking place for months, but like so many other events this spring, it was on the brink of cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tariq Khraishi, a professor of mechanical engineering at The University of New Mexico, was tasked...

A University of New Mexico professor is leading a NASA project that will develop a more efficient method of cooling that relies on electromagnetic fields instead of moving parts and is believed to be well-suited for a zero-gravity environment, such as...

Francesco Sorrentino, associate professor of mechanical engineering at The University of New Mexico, has been awarded the National Institutes of Health Trailblazer Award from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) for a...

According to a new study led by a team from The University of New Mexico, centuries-old laws about the behavior of gas mixtures do not apply in the presence of shock waves. This finding could have potential impact on everything that involves mixtures of...
